Cold Chisel – Breakfast at Sweethearts, not quite, but at the Blue Ginger Restaurant, not so far from here … that’s what our friend Tam told us. Not so according to the taxi metre. He took us on a city tour, after 10 minutes we crossed the main road not more than one kilometre from the hotel. I told him exactly that and the next thing I know - we were there. 55.000 did the metre show, he was happy with 20.000 VND we offered him.
Went in and sat in the middle of a nice courtyard. Soon Bob and Hien arrived too, and they brought a friend, Vo Thanh Ha.
Ha works for the Saigon Times Foundation, she is Director External Affairs.
We were chatting along nicely and then we came to the point. We experienced some problems and Ha was giving us advice what to do and how they do it.
The Saigon Foundation has got a lot of experience in charity work. Ha offered to help us with some of our projects. Great!!!
We even discussed a close co-operation. The foundation is non-for profit and any funds can be channelled through – no charges … direct to the recipients. The foundation also does follow up checks on every project they support, not only beforehand but also during the year. This is exactly what we want. We had such an interesting breakky it was great. Needless to say, we were the last to leave. Went to Bob and Hien’s office and discussed our projects with Ha.
We will sponsor 10 children (scholarship ~ $33 for one year) in Sai Gon, Binh Thanh District and help 18 others with school fees or donations.
Tomorrow, Ha will come with us to the Hope school. We’ll keep you posted.
Quick lunch at 333, then we went to meet Nhi and Tan, director of PO, at the Peace Orphanage. We agreed to support Minh An to learn to read sheet music and to play the keyboard. The tuition goes for 5 month, 4 hours per week, 1.800.000 VND per month, all in all 9.000.000 VND ~ roughly $520.
Then we went upstairs again, had some German fruit gums. Had a lot of fun n games … took plenty of pictures and videos too. Then things got out of hand, one of the girls grabbed Uli’s glasses and bent them in the process. They were completely out of whack. Hoan offered to take Uli to and optometrist. Lucky he could bend everything back.
All in all a very good day for us. A good outcome and easier project management in the future.
